Third roadshow event at Dumfries

Event number 3 took place at the Easterbrook Hall in sunny Dumfries on Tuesday, 31 August. Thank you to our hosts Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership.

Tenants and landlords from across the region were represented. There was a useful exchange of ideas, with tenants emphasising the importance of good two way communication with their landlords. Landlords and Government officials left with a clear message from tenants - plain English, no acronyms and no jargon please!

Suggestions on what a good landlord should be delivering included:

  • A responsive, quality repairs service that offers an appointment system to suit customers' needs, delivers a first time fix, leaves the customer satisfied and gives value for money
  • Consultation with tenants, listening to their needs and responding accordingly
  • Opportunities for tenant participation
  • Consistent, accurate and easily understood information and advice
  • Good quality, affordable homes where people want to live
  • An easily understood, fair and transparent allocations policy which meets housing need and contributes to the creation of balanced communities; houses being relet in a prompt and efficient manner
  • A clean, tidy, well maintained, attractive, safe and secure physical environment
  • Local staff who engage with tenants on estate management issues
  • Service improvements based on feedback from tenants
  • Strong assertive action taken against anti-social behaviour
  • Partnership working with other organisations to resolve community issues - a whole community approach
  • Honest and accurate performance reporting
  • Clear accounting
